It sounds like the timing is off when I try to crank the car up.the fuel pump primes and sounds like it is running but it sounds almost like the timing is off or something because it tries to run but wont stay running unless I pedal the throttle but only for a second. Someone said it could be the EEC relay but where the heck is it?

Found this at the allfordmustangs forums...

"The fuel pump relay cutting out is more than likely a result of the EEC losing power, not vise-versa. The EEC gets its power through a fusible link attached at the starter solenoid. It may be a bad connection on the solenoid, or the link may be bad. It looks like a thick piece of wire, and is usually stamped "fusible link". Check the harness that runs from the starter solenoid, along the firewall, to the computer harness on the passenger side for any damage."

Hope it helps.

Welp now it cranks and runs about 3 seconds and shuts off. I guess I'll try a new TFI tomorrow

Sounds like a weak fuel pump to me, but its hard to say. My first guess wouldn't be the TFI module cause if it was bad the car wouldn't run at all.

mark i did check it and it looks like it is on number 1 but it isnt off center like it should be for an HO motor, but the manual isn't very clear which was one of my first thoughts. but when it fires off it runs smooth even though it almost sounds just like the firing order is off when she cranks.
th ereason i'm doing the tfi is the manual said that if it was bad and the fuel pump didn't receive a signal from it that after three seconds it would shut it off. And it also got pretty hot and sounded like the spark was coming and going during cranking sometimes. does any of this make sense? it's kinda hard trying to troubleshoot with one person so i will appreciate any help

Alright thanks,so is the fuel pump the running theory now? Is there a schrader valve on rail or do I have to use a hose with a clamp? This is why I stick with Carb's most of the time

there is a schrader valve on the rail. and it very well could be the pump, but like always i would say check the filter first just to make sure.

Get you a gauge that will screw on the schrader valve and check the pressure it should be 40psi.

Anybody wanna help me swap the fuel pump? Food and drink included of course.
She cranked right up after setting the timing but dies when you try and give her throttle then won't crank unless cycle the key a dozen times.
