I'm putting the 0.50 overdrive gear in my trans so i'll be able to get good gas mileage on the highway and still run a low rearend gear. I'm either gonna go 3.73's or 4.10's. For those that don't know I put my 3.31's back in cause I made a boo boo and broke em in the press. Anyhow I hope to be trapping 130+ in the quarter once I get everything going, but the 4.10's will require me to shift into 5th gear at those speeds with my current 26" tall tire.......... something I don't care to do. With a 2.97 first gear in the 6060 I don't think the 3.73's are gonna get me moving off the line fast enough. So what to do what to do? And no I don't want 3.90's. One option is to run a 28" slick with the 4.10's and turn the rev limiter up to 6700 and that will get my 4th gear top speed up to 136 mph...................... Which direction should I go?

Well I was gonna suggest 3.90's, but obviously you don't wanna hear that. lol. So I'd go with this one, "One option is to run a 28" slick with the 4.10's and turn the rev limiter up to 6700 and that will get my 4th gear top speed up to 136 mph..."

Wont you have to jack the rearend up to fit a 28'' tire under there?

I think thats what I wanna do, but I'd like to see if anyone thinks the 3.73's would be a better idea. I'm still running the stock heads so 6700 rpm is kinda pushing the stock valvetrain.

Nope I have plenty of clearance. Lots of guys run these tires you just have to get the correct width so they don't rub the quarter panel under a load.

i'd say 3.73s just to try it. i would rather shift to 5th than drop a valve at the other end. i wouldnt want to have my car beating the rev limiter at the other end.

Just a question, how come you don't want to go with 3.90's?

IDK.......... I had 3.73's in the car and wish I went with 4.10's.......... The new tranny has a 2.97 1st gear compared to the 3.38 in the current transmission. This is one of the reasons FastOrange couldn't ever get off the line hard. I don't want to run into that problem. If I was staying at my current power level there would be no question and 4.10s would be going in, but I plan to be pushing 600+ so its making the decision really hard. Also when you select a gear for the 1/4 mile you should pick the gear that lets you cross the line at peak HP and the 4.10's will allow me to do that.

how bout this you know you can do gears yourself why not do the 3.73s until you get to the power you want or whatever it is you need to do to make the power you want i would rather do gears then blow my heads up and end up spends thousands more

Thats the part that kinda sucks. Right now I shift at 6500 so I would only be adding 200 rpm to my rev limiter so its not that horrible. Also 5th gear would be an option since its a 0.80 gear. I had my mind made up on 4.10's earlier today, but you guys got me thinking some more.
