|
|
Well about a week ago I had thought of since I wasn't really gonna be modding the car too much for a little bit, I would take down the fuel tank cover, clean it, and repaint it black so it'd just look a little nicer from the rear view. I did not know that those straps were all that supported the cover and the tank itself. I thought the tank would be held up by maybe some bolts or something. I think in this process I may have damaged the filler tube because twice now since filling up the gas station it has leaked back out for a couple minutes before it stopped. It never did this to me before. So when the tank gets empty again I'm gonna lower it and take it out to see if I can see any damage anywhere. I figured since it's gonna be out I might as well upgrade the fuel pump since the car will eventually have more power ayway. Now onto my questions:
Assuming that this works on both Gt's and V6's, what do you guys think of the BBK 255 Lph Pump? Is it a nice upgrade from stock and do you know if I will need anything else to install it? Or will it just fit right into the stock wiring and everything?
Will doing this effect my tune at all?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Here's a link to the pump:

chances are you damaged it where the filler neck goes into the tank. chris's car did it last time we cruised to holcomb, tyson's car does it, and i think joeys but i cant remember. Just look at it next time you fill it and see isnt it coming from around the filler neck where it goes into the tank _________________ [img][/img]

this happened to my sixer, you dont need to drop the tank, but im sure itll make it a hell of a lot easier, you have to replace the grommet in between the filler neck and the tank, its a pain in the ass but it doest take too long. if you want to drop the tank anyways by all means itll be a lot easier. _________________

Alright, I'll try replacing that then.
Is this it:

I'm still thinking of upgrading the fuel pump and injectors though. Found a set of 39 lb injectors I might pick up.
If I do the pump and injectors, anyone know if I'll have to get the tune adjusted? _________________

you might not need a tune but it will not run as smooth as it was before. _________________

OK. I'm gonna go ahead and order that grommet then so hopefully I can atleast stop the leakage when it's full.
And I guess I'll pick up the stuff for the fuel system and put it in when I'm ready to have Caleb look at the tune again. It smells like it's running rich anyway because the smell of gas is very strong when accelerating and gas mileage seems like it has gone down a good amount. _________________

depending on which pumps you are going with, caleb/taylor should be able to tell you if the voltage tables are close enough to run with the current tune _________________ [img][/img]

No, the BBK pump will not work. It is a return style fuel pump, you need a returnless pump. The easiest route would be to get a svt focus pump or a 05+ mustang gt pump. When you are ready to do some upgrades then u can get you a Kenne Bell boost-a-pump and put on it. I got my FRPP 42 pound injectors for blue oval industries for 200 bucks shipped and they will support anything you plan on throwing at them. _________________ Procharged 2004 Sonic Blue GT= WEAK SAUSE

| yes you will need a tune. i would definetly get a tune because thats what you got tuned for with what you had on. when you add new stuff especially dealing with the fuel if not your playing with fire just waiting for something to happen. I guess you could maybe get away with it since your not running some serious power like a supercharger or turbo but i would still get it tuned. |

Well since the tank is coming down anyway, why not. It will just better prepare me for my future plans. I'm sure finishing the motor and adding forced induction will put me over the limit for the stock sixxer setup.
SB04GT - I originally was planning to look for an SVT Focus Pump, maybe I'll still go that route. Thanks for the input. That would've sucked to buy that and then find out I couldn't use it. _________________

I would go with a BAP or focus pumps, shouldn't be that hard to install. Check out Modularfords.com and look under for sale and it is broken down to specific itmes even down to fuel systems. I have seen great deals on BAP, fuel pumps and full fuel system all the time. Mine did the same thing but only once. I think the pump at the station was messed up it just keep filling my and started over flowing. I never had that happen again. _________________

Yea mine never did it before and now it's happened twice back to back. I'm gonna order that grommet between the tank and the filler pipe like Rican suggested and see if that fixes it. _________________
