No worries. You might want to start your introduction thread so everyone can get to know you. _________________

the thread is like a new subject. If you go back out of this to the next menu or whatever you see my "thread" is called "hey everyone" at the top of the page there should be a tab that says start a new thread or new topic. Then create your own title, like new guy, or hey, new guy on the sight etc. _________________

Whats the reason for staying nitrous and not doing a full time power adder when you do an engine swap? Dont get me wrong, I'm probly the biggest proponent for nitrous on this site, but I recently did and engine and trans swap in prep for a turbo. Plus that deal on Jeff's shortblock is about as good as you're going to get. _________________

I've always used nitrous and I'm just way more familiar with it. Jeff's block is a good deal, but only if I was going with a turbo. For one, my nitrous kit is already there. All I have to do is jet up for more power once I get the shortblock. I cant afford to get a shortblock and then buy a turbo as well. I'm an E5 with a wife that doesn't work and a daughter on the way so my budget isn't the best lol.
Jeff's shortblock is well priced but I want flat top pistons so I can bump the compression up, using his shortblock would just hurt my performance with nitrous. Also you can get a JDM or Brenspeed shortblock for 3500.00 which isnt that much more then jeff's. But I have to wait till fall until brenspeed starts producing the flat top version of there shortblock. _________________

I gotcha. I see where your dilemma is and I understand. I'm sure you know as well as I do about putting a lot of "wet" nitrous through an EFI intake manifold so just be careful when you start jetting up... IIRC those shortblock you quoted are still using factory cast cranks, which will be fine for the power levels you seek. I just dont want you doing things over again because of a budget you put yourself on now. _________________

I wanted to do a rotating assembly from livernois or modmax but everyone I talk to wants like 4-5 grand to install it....even with it being stock bore and pre balanced.... I mean what the hell is up with that. I won't be jetting up for a long time. I'd have to get a new fuel system to run past 125 shot anyways. So realistically I'll do a bottom end and jet up to 125 shot and call it good. I just can't believe people's labor pricing for a rotating assembly.... the kit is like 2200.00 how can labor cast twice what the parts do lmao. Blasphemy. _________________

Also I believe the brenspeed block uses a forged crank as you need to get a 8 bolt flywheel and I thought only the forged aftermarket cranks where 8 bolt as oppose to 6 bolt stock cranks. Same with the JDM shortblock I was looking at. _________________

| That's because there's alot more to building an engine then just buying parts. When you start doing yours you'll find out all the smaller/cheaper parts that you need that'll nickel and dime you. |

Oh i understand that completely. I might link you my quote. The labor rates are the rediculous parts. I know you need like 8 different gaskets, fluids, etc etc etc etc etc. Like a grand worth of small crap. I get that part. But when its a labor rate of 90/hour and they write it up as a 29 hour job to dissasemble and put it back together, thats not even including the machine work..... I mean really......29 hours to replace the rotating assembly???? _________________

cheapest place I could find to do my shortblock was in Va and they want 3600 for the shortblock swap and dyno tune. they said they would do the dyno tune for free since i'm active duty military so that would knock it down to like 3200 for the short block swap. _________________

But looking at it realistically were talking like 10k to get it to where I want it.
6k for the shortblock and work, maybe 7k. Another grand for the fuel system probably more then that. Then the costs of getting it all dyno tuned in. Figuring out and working on the nitrous system getting it safely jetted up to make some decent power.
Just at the end of all that. I might just hold what I have. Get a set of control arms and call it good at the numbers I have now. It's a DD so its good enough. I might just save up and get myself another maverick and start building a 351 for it in my spare time. Then I could have a dedicated drag car and a DD with a little power _________________
