Does anybody know an easy way to prevent wheel hop at the track. I was told Steeda sold a wheel hop stop kit. Before i buy it wanted to know if any of you guys have it. Also has anyone swapped the IRS for a 8.8?

I've swapped a IRS into a GT, wheel hop is caused by lots of things, crappy rubber bushings, too much power to grip, not enough power to flat out spin the tires, etc.

Personally I have seen plenty of IRS guys go 10's and quicker on an IRS if you take care of it, if it is going to be a track car do the swap but ride quality will suffer.

Opinions of course differ.

My buddy did the whole delrin bushing kit the one guy sells on there, $1100 I think for a whole kit, car ran 11.45 before the kit, after it ran... 0, broken half-shaft on the first launch, it hooked good on the MT's I guess.

I would look into a IRS brace, bushings, subframes, diff cover, and most important is a good set of tires et streets all the way.

real sticky tires and a hard launch could break an axle however... just food for thought.

front and rear differential bushings, subframe bolts (check to make sure you need them. ford messed up with some most cobras and put the wrong size bolts in teh subframe), subframe support brackets, irs brace just prevents the diff cover from breaking but it is good to have if you dont want to spend the money on an upgraded differential cover

it also really all depends on what youre using the car for. DD, track, how often youre goin to the track, etc. like the others said, a nice set of stocky streets are nice to have. but until you beef up that irs, id stay away from straight drag slicks

Wheel hop is the killer.

Thing to me is, I've seen members on SVTP buy those high priced bushings kits and still have wheel hop and break a half shaft.

At this point; everybody has a different opinion as to avoid breaking a half shaft. I talked to a lot of people and researched a bunch on SVTP. What I saw was that cars that had the most half shaft breakage had drag radials, while the cars that ran bias ply tires had by far the least amount of problems with wheel hop and the least amount of breakage.

Does that mean that just because you run a bias ply tire that you won't have breakage? No, it's racing and your gonna break stuff; but I'll take my chances with the bias ply tires...so far they've worked for me.

And that is the tire I recommend too. So far I haven't had any problems with mine but haven't tried a hard launch yet.

If you're interested in doing this at a later date let me know, I would like to get that IRS from you for my next project.

Jeff kinda wants my IRS and he has a built 8.8 and I would do it but my car rides so nice and I ain't trying to get into the 10's. Low 11's is all I need. If I did the solid axle then this thing will start turing into a track car and right now I just can't do it. Mabe down the road when I have another DD.

Today I took my car to Fayetteville for Draggin Rights; and in my quest for getting that 10 second time slip...I broke a half shaft.

I think two things contributed to it. I took my ET Streets off the 17X9's and put them on my set of 17X 10.5's; by doing this I stretched the tire and stiffened up the side wall. Second thing was, the tracks starting line had incredible bite today. When my car broke I got out to help push it back and the starting line was so sticky, it nearly pulled my shoe off!
