Just bought my mustang about a week ago (2008 mustang GT, 5 speed manual) and am kind of tossing around ideas. What are the best mods to start with? I found a pair of pypes violators (axle back) locally for a steal of a deal and picked up/installed those. Should my next step be a Cold Air Intake and a tune or something else? I appreciate all input and if anyone has a CAI or tuner that they want to give a new guy a good deal on let me know.

intake and tune will really wake the car up. JLT is a very good brand. _________________

Hey man welcome to the site! Have you introduced yourself in the intro forum yet?
What are you looking to do with the car?
If you're interested in drag racing, some of the best mods you can do is: ring and pinion, JLT Cold Air (you will need a tune with this since the 3Vs are finicky), MGW shifter, BMR upper and lower control arms with panard bar and you will need some drag radials on seperate wheels. The wheels and tires are the biggest key IMO. |

I don't plan on dragging or anything like that just yet. Besides the violaotor axle backs the car is bone stock and it's a daily driver so I just want to do some things to give it that extra snap. As far as tunes go, i'm guessing there are tunes for regular fuel and premium fuel? What's the smartest way to go? I'll go introduce myself and thanks _________________

You can get a regular 87 tune or go up to a 93 tune. Like tiddies said a CAI and tune will get you going. Scott mention'd gears. If your running 3.55's and like to get some more out of it, I would go 4.10's unless you plan on a power adder one day? _________________

How much of a power difference would I see between a regular fuel tune and a premium fuel tune? Also, between the regular and premium tunes will either one be considerably harder on gas or will I get roughly what i'm getting now? I know that I definately want a CAI. I see that there are those that require a tune and those that don't so i'd probably just get one of the combo kits. Are the SC3 tuners good or is there something else I should consider that is better or cheaper? As far as gears go, i'm guessing that swapping gears to make it more snappy would make me run higher RPMs on the highway and in turn take my mileage down considerably? Sorry for all the questions and thanks much |

You gas mileage would probably be better on the 93 tune and you would feel little more power too. I ran 4.10' in my 2000GT with a 93 tune and still saw 24 MPG on the highway. SCT is a good choice to tune with since alot of tuners use them on Mustangs. _________________

Also, i've heard that shops can either cut a chip for you or you can buy a tuner. I'm just guessing, but i'd say that actually bying a tuner like that is the way to go vice getting a chip? _________________

| u can go with a CAI and SCT tuner usually from FastLane, Waynes who is local(only uses sniper to tune) national speed who now has a tuner who can tune very good for mustangs, majestic (not my personal preference) D3racing can get you a good deal and im sure screaming fast(p-51) will tell you they can get you a good deal on parts also. It all depends on what and how much extra snap you want and how deep your pockets are to buy those parts. anyways good luck in what ever mods you decide. i do have the CAI off my Saleen that i might sell if interested. |

Not looking to go that deep in the pockets lol. I figure that a tuner and CAI won't run me too awful much and should start me off at least. I'll probably not (at least any time in the immediate future) get into the superchargers and big expensive stuff. May be interested in that CAI depending on what type it is and how good of a deal you're willing to make I found an AFE Magnum Force pretty cheap but I don't know much about that specific one. _________________

Most online vendors have package deals and like Towgunner said some local vendors can help you out. You can use the preloaded tunes in the SCT tuner and it will give you a nice little amount of pick up. I wouldn't do any dyno tuning until you starting getting more serious with your mods. If you need a price for JLT and SCT tuner I can send you a PM on them, just let me know. _________________

The only CAI that I seen on LJYS was a AME Magnum force. Guy wanted $75 bucks for it. I got the approval from the wifey (after buying her a new droid phone) to order tuner/CAI combo. Looking on american muscle at the JLT with SC3 tuner and free bama tunes for life. Opinions? _________________
