Ok, I expected this but am looking to understand it a little bit more. Installed the O/R X-Pipe on my car and of course a day later the check engine light popped on just like I expected. Not a big deal since my SCT tuner shipped today and that stuff will be built into the tune. I expect it was because the oxygen sensors that monitor the air past where the cats should be is detecting that the air is too dirty?
Also, I read somewhere that when your check engine light comes on and that happens that your car goes into a "closed loop" or something where it shuts off a bunch of the emissions stuff or something like that? My questions are, when your check engine light comes on for that reason what does it really do? My car felt like it lost some umph after that came on. The 2nd question and I think I already know the answer is that after I throw the tune on it (bama) via SCT tuner it will clear those codes and normalize everything correct?
I also seen on a seperate topic where someone was saying there is a trick to not get your check engine light to come on even without a tune? What's that lol? It didn't say what the trick was. |

The computer richens the fuel to keep the cats from overheating is why you are feeling loss of power. Also you opened up the exhaust so you probably traded some low end torque for upper end HP.
You can go to autozone and get 2 packs of spark plug nonfoulers then drill out 2 of them with a 1/2" drill bit. Install your O2 sensors into these. Then install this into the unmodified nonfouler then install it into the exhaust. That's all there is to it. |

Honestly, I seen a difference between this afternoon and this evening when the CEL came on or at least it felt like it. I should be fine once I get the SCT i'm sure but I was just wondering if there was any truth to all that other stuff getting disabled just because the CEL came on. _________________

The engine just relies on its preset tables and doesn't take into account some of the sensors that help it run more effeciently. that is why you noticed a performance change in the car. _________________ "Built not Bought"

Ah, so that does make sense then on what I found about the closed loop or whatever turning off other sensors. Good to know, it'll be fixed via custom tune soon regardless but I like to learn. Thanks everyone for taking time to explain it and once I get some more knowledge under my belt i'll pay that forward . _________________
